Satanic Temple files appeal on Missouri abortion law over 'non-scientific' information
KTUV ^ | July 31, 2019 | Larry D. Curtis

The Satanic Temple is appealing a lawsuit against the State of Missouri on behalf of a woman who says her rights were violated when she was forced to wait 72 hours for an abortion and was required to read religious material that asserts life begins at conception. It claims the material provided is designed to produce shame over her decision and is contrary to science.

According to the organization, the appeal is based on a 1989 decision handed down by the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals "which explicitly states that the life of each human being begins at conception is 'an impermissible state adoption of a theory when life begins.' " The appeals is to the same court.

The lawsuit and appeal is in behalf of an anonymous Judy Doe, a member of the Satanic Temple, or TST, and takes on Missouri's "informed consent" law.

The Missouri Supreme Court previously dismissed the challenge to the state law that requires one of the nation’s longest waiting periods for abortion. The court said the lawsuit failed to show Doe's rights were violated because Missouri state law doesn't require the woman to read the booklet or get an ultrasound but provides the opportunity. The TST claimed a small victory after the dismissal, saying if women aren't forced to do those things it is helpful.

The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic religious organization that doesn't believe in a literal Satan but uses the Bible-based Satan as a symbol of enlightened inquiry and rebellion against tyrannical authority. It says it advocates political common sense and justice.

"...an impermissible state adoption of a theory when life begins.' "

Obviously they'd be dissatisfied with a law that identified Satanists as human beings. I mean, is this a scientific fact? Why? Sez who?

I bet they think they're defending human rights. When they don't even know what a human being *IS*.

material that asserts life begins at conception.

It does! It IS "the" fact of life.
It takes life to make life!
At no time is any inert or non living material needed nor used to create life.

Two living cells combine to create a new living cell.

So simple even cavemen should be able to comprehend it!

Never quite got the obligatory presumption that proves the belief of murder of babies being wrong constitutes evidence of religious propaganda.

Imagine if an atheist expressed belief that murder of babies is wrong?

Is someone who believes the wanton killing of animals is wrong automatically tagged with being a Christian? Oops...

Thank you for referencing that article Morgana. As usual, please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

”’… an impermissible [??? emphasis added] state adoption of a theory when life begins.'"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Where 10th Amendment-protected state sovereignty is concerned, the main consideration is that a state's adoption of a theory when life begins is not expressly prohibited by the Constitution.

"10th Amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people [emphasis added]."

Also, all states that legally define personhood as beginning at conception would win embryos 14th Amendment protections from new patriot Congress elected in 2020 imo.

From the 14th Amendment:

And to make such constitutional protections for embryos based on honest interpretations of the Constitution as permanent as possible, patriots need to support PDJT in leading the states to repeal the ill-conceived 17th Amendment.

Corrections, insights welcome.

Remember in November 2020!

The Satanists might be a bit disingenuous.

Of course it is a scientific fact that every person receives his or her unique genetic code at the moment of conception. Each new person is also alive. Murderers often feel the need to dehumanize their victims in order to assuage their own guilt.

The Satanists must want us to believe personhood becomes a thing when the stork delivers a baby or it is discovered under a cabbage leaf.

As they view themselves as conscious products of the divine creative energy aka evolution aka serpent power by many ancients, then Satanists who believe they are human suffer from hallucinations caused by chemical and energy interactions in their grey-matter. Or in CS Lewis’s words: in rejecting the Creator and sustainer of their life and being they have stepped out into the void and are no longer human.
