Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 9

Jezebel Killed

30 Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup, arranged her hair and looked out of a window. 31 As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri, you murderer of your master?”[e]

32 He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. 33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.

34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.” 35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands. 36 They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the Lord that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh.[f] 37 Jezebel’s body will be like dung on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’”

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

"Miss LTOS, I would like you to give piano lessons to my son."

"How Old is he?"

"He just turned three."

"Hmmm...that's a little young, don't you think?"

"Oh but he LOVES music! He's a Little Mozart!"

There are very few people in history who stood out so much that their names have become synonymous with their special talent or perhaps, their egregiously bad behavior. "Oy! My new roommate is a regular HITLER!" was a line I will never forget from a darling, frail, elderly nursing home resident back in the eighties. The roommate was nothing of the sort, but it was obvious the two didn't get along.

Jezebel was doing this exact thing when she called Jehu "Zimri". Zimri had briefly been king some 45 years earlier and had murdered every last relative of the deposed Baasha. Her epithet, however, was not far off the mark, as Jehu did make sure that every last relative of Ahab and Jezebel was eliminated.

The irony, of course, is that Jezebel has become an epithet as well, for a wicked, manipulative, sexually promiscuous, scandalous, woman. It is still part of our vocabulary today, and was a major 1938 movie starring Bette Davis.

I am going to depart from our usual format today and invite you all to share a name that has become a generic. I have already used "Mozart", "Hitler", and "Jezebel", and Jezebel herself has given us "Zimri". Why not use it in a sentence to illustrate.

Also, when you pray today, please remember the Aunt of one of our own prayer warriors. Aunt Peggy had a bad heart attack and was like a mother to her whole family. Please pray for her healing and recovery.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

Did you ever think that some of those artists had fun sneaking stuff into the pictures and snickering to each other, “How many people do you think will notice this?”

Oh ABSOLUTELY!

My Dad was a WW2 Photographer, and his favorite picture was a street scene in Tsingtou, China. As a gift to him, I painted a replica of the photo and chose my colors arbitrarily, as the photo was in Black and White.

My Dad instantly noticed that the Rickshaw driver was a self-portrait.

Look at any of the Renaissance Masters, and you will see prominent political and religious figures pictured as a saint....or maybe even a “Judas”.

What a gas! I’m not knowledgeable enough to be able to pick them out, though. Maybe their are expositions about the paintings that would help? Your rickshaw-driver substitution is hilarious!

Our neighbor raised prize-winning coonhounds; otherwise, I dunno except for a roger-that on the dreadlocks.
