I’.I’m a Protestant, but I see the need for celibate clergy. For years, Catholic schools were very cheap because the priests and nuns could live very cheaply.
This gives me something to think about.
Celibacy does not seem to be working perfectly for the Catholic Church. Of course there are other situations amongst humans that are not perfect either. In the USA there are freedoms to chose to stay with the religion or to leave or to shop around for another.
Not sure what keeping the commandments has to do being united with Christ ?
Joh 14:15 “If you love Me, obey My commandments.
Thanks. Of course. Christ’s commandments. sorry...i was thinking old testament commandments.
Jesus Christ is the Triune God, the same Triune God, that God the Father gave the Ten Commandments to Moses.
God does not contradict Himself.
Preface of the Holy Trinity:
It is truly meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should in all times and in all places give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty and everlasting God; who with Thine only begotten Son and the Holy Ghost art one God, one Lord: not in the unity of a single person, but in the Trinity of a single nature. For that which we believe on Thy revelation concerning Thy glory, that same we believe of Thy Son, that same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or discrimination. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, we shall adore distinction in persons, oneness in being, and equality in majesty. This the angels and archangels, the cherubim too, and the seraphim do praise; day by day they cease not to cry out, saying as with one voice:
[All] Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are filled with Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed + is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Now someone approached [Jesus] and said, Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life? He answered him, Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments. He asked him, Which ones? And Jesus replied, You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 19:16-19)While the commandments of the Mosaic Law were temporary, those listed in the Ten Commandments are eternal, and still binding.
Meaning if all but a couple of the apostles of the NT preachers reached Japan in the 1st century, they would be rejected for being married, since that was the norm for both apostles and pastors. And celibacy is referred to as being a gift that not all have, and requiring it of NT pastors is blatantly contrary to what Scripture teaches and shows, and is foolish.
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;... One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) (1 Timothy 32,:4-5)
For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. (Titus 1:5-6)
Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. (1 Corinthians 7:7)
thank you both...
The Bible teaches the priesthood of all believers. While my Church leaves consecration of the elements to ordained clergy only to preserve good order there is no reason ANY believer could not consecrate. Christ did not say this do only when an unmarried celibate graduate of one sects seminary system is available to consecrate for you.
So now eating Jesus ISN'T necessary for salvation.
Imagine that.
It sure is fun trying to keep up with who's on first in Catholicism and what doctrine Catholics have to listen to today and which ones they can choose to ignore.
1.2 billion popes.
YOPIOC.
Interesting. So-— just to clarify -— you believe in real consecration of the Eucharistic elements, the true Body and Blood of Christ?
yes but not in the way you do. i believe the real body and blood of Christ are present in with and under the bread and wine. The bread and wine remain bread and wine. We do not worship (adore whatever ) the elements nor do we believe the soul and divinity of Christ are present in the supper. There is no ongoing or resacrifice of Christ and the supper is not offered for anything or anyone. In short I simply believe what Christ has said without any of the other extra biblical add ons. And in no way do I believe the pastor pulls Christ down from Heaven to the altar in obedience to the pastors words.
Nor do I believe communion is necessary for salvation. It is a marvelous blessing that nourishes my faith in a beautiful way. It is a physical gift from a God who created the physical world and knows we need. physical touch. In short it is grace that we can see feel smell and taste. What an amazing God we have.
