Ms. Bragg nearly vomited. She stood up and walked out.

*****************************************************

Why would she even still be there if the rest of the story is true?

A Pastor I knew had an affair with his 15 year old babysitter. She was willing until she was not. The entire church fell apart over this.

If this happened, it was immoral and wrong - always.

...worth noting that this "megachurch" is way behind the abuse of just one roman catholic priest in one parish...

“After years of resisting reform, the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, promised that it would address the problem this week at its annual gathering of thousands of pastors. The denomination’s new president, J.D. Greear, has called for repentance for “a culture that has made abuse, cover-ups and evading accountability far too easy.””

Yeah, “repentance,” that’s the ticket. No jail time, just “repentance”! Is that a legal term? Can you just go to court and tell them that “you’ve repented,” and have the court excuse your having raped a little girl? Just a bunch of “Sick Ba$tards!” The Catholics have a lot of “company” it would seem.

This happens in small churches too. There definately needs to be an awareness about this to parents in the church. Also better security and precautions. AND churches need to step up and admit this when it happens. All of these are how you properly lead the flock and protect itfrom the wolves. I just wish it wasnt the NYT that brought this up. But ALL parents in church need to be aware and their kids.

“Ms. Bragg nearly vomited. She stood up and walked out.
Exactly one year before that day, on Feb. 17, 2018, Ms. Bragg and her husband, Matt, reported to the Village that their daughter, at about age 11, had been sexually abused at the church’s summer camp for children.”

Why was she still attending that church?

All these “mega-churches” are manifestations of the “beast that comes out of the earth.” They are unsupervised and proclaim a different gospel, which is no gospel at all. Millions have been and will be deceived by this beast.

“She waited to have even one conversation with Mr. Chandler, a leader she had long admired.”

Then she was surprised to find that lawyers exist.

Liberals never generalize when it comes to bad things done by people of their tribe. But they never fail to generalize when it comes to bad things done by people not part of the liberal tribe. All conservatives are responsible for the crimes of a single white conservative. But liberals are never responsible for the crimes of multiple liberals.

In fact, conservatives are also responsible for the crimes of liberals. That is how Lee Harvey Oswald, an actual communist who defected to the Soviet Union and came back when he overstayed his welcome, had his assassination of JFK transmogrified into the result of a climate of hate in Dallas, a narrative driven by his ugly-on-the-inside-and-outside wife Jackie Onassis.

I was once casually acquainted with a nationally famous megachurch pastor and author. I attended school with his son, and my mother used to have lengthy (one- or two-hour) theological debates with him.

He committed adultery - once, apparently, after the time that we knew him - and ten years later he was exposed, and his ministry was destroyed.

The tragic thing is that I know he wanted to publicly confess and repent to his congregation at the time, but was persuaded by the Church Board to keep it secret. A resentful opponent eventually exposed the secret.

(My mother’s relationship with him was limited, and mostly done by long telephone conversations. As a teenaged boy who knew the son, I actually found it all rather embarrassing, but I knew it was innocent.)

She reported it to the church, the guy was arrested and indicted.

Doesn’t sound like a cover up to me.

Here’s more:

They also made public postings:

https://www.thevillagechurch.net/2012-kids-camp-update

and it has been covered in the news.

What defines “megachurch,” exactly?

Is it the size of the congregation?

I’m not interested in the well-known pejorative implication.

There are many very large Roman Catholic Churches.

As far as I can tell, these are also examples of a “megachurch.”

Can you shed any light upon this? Thanks.
