Two Scandinavian journalists expose the West's demise from 'weak Christianity'

The following brief but highly informative interview, titled, "Europe: Deep Spiritual Crisis," appeared earlier this year on Herland Report TV.'The host, Hanne Nabintu Herland, a Norwegian historian of religions and a journalist, interviews Iben Thranholm, a Danish theologian and journalist.

Both women are to be commended for raising many important points — indeed, for getting to the heart of the West's problems, including vis-à-vis Islam — that are seldom acknowledged in American media, certainly not "mainstream" media.'Moreover, as both come from Scandinavia, arguably the most "progressive" region in the world, they know what they speak of and offer a prognostication the U.S. can learn from.

The general theme of the episode is that Western values have become almost entirely materialistic in essence.'Because pure materialism is ultimately dissatisfying — "man shall not live on bread alone" — more and more Western people are turning to any number of metaphysical ideologies, from Islam to paganism — anything, as long as it's not Christianity.'Because many of these ideologies are intrinsically hostile to Christianity, Western culture, which was founded on Christian principles, has become suicidal — hence the current situation, especially in Europe.

As Thranholm explains:

You cannot understand the world only from a political viewpoint.'We are in a spiritual warfare and not just a political struggle. ... It has become a taboo to speak about religion due to this anti-religious ideology that claims that religion has no value.'As long as we remain in this spiritual crisis, I don't think Europe will be able to defeat Islam.'The reason why Islam is so successful here is because we have a spiritual vacuum.

Ironically, Hitler preferred Islam to Christianity because he thought Christianity was “weak”, and not a good religion for soldiers.

Many “Christian” countries have been Christian in Name Only for decades and have become ashamed of their Christian background. The UK, Sweden, Denmark, Germany. Bearded pig-haters know that and have been rushing in to fill the void.

In corporate TV ads, people are often portrayed as doing yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, or some other form of Asian martial art. They are NEVER portrayed as reading a Bible or doing anything explicitly Christian. I think that part of the reason for this is that these Eastern practices can easily be put in the service of the ego, they can be seen as "hip," and they do not involve any sort of moral inventory.

Jesus, on the other hand, is avoided like the plague because he is seen as making demands on us, as requiring a decision and a commitment to radical change.

Of course, there has always been a form of "comfortable Christianity," but those days are coming to an end in the West. We may be returning to a new age of martyrs.

For secularists, Buddha is tame and benevolent, Krishna is kind of silly, and Jesus is threatening. Despite all the protestations that Islam is a “religion of peace,” Mohammed is secretly admired because the left knows he was NOT a man of peace and would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and - moreover - he was an implacable foe of Christianity and Judaism and the civilization they represent. Thus, he serves as a kind of a secret role model for the left.

My family left mainstream Christianity as the various denominations sought to become inclusive and modified the Bible to fit their social agendas. We have been fortunate to find Bible Churches that simply teach the word and reach out to help local communities and missionaries throughout the world.
