Well, it's unlikely Cardinal Eijk be defrocked. One good thing about the byzantine complexities of Canon Law is that it provides for procedural due process, and there's no canonical way he can be deprived of his priesthood.

That's not to say Pope Francis couldn't make life miserable for him. I'm no canon lawyer, but I think Francis could assign him Teheran or Pyongyang or somewhere, and then just step back and let him be killed.

But: the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church.
