Yes, they misunderstood what/where the Kingdom would be.

I think not ... Jesus taught them personally for 40 days after His resurrection. For them to misunderstand His meaning is not believable. And their question in Acts 1 verifies that they certainly understood what He was teaching concerning the nature of the kingdom.

As far as the lengthy cut and paste ... Replacement Theology at its best (or rather worst). I have many disagreements with the author which are too numerous to post.

I am not sure that I said or implied that his disciples misunderstood; that would be foolish, because Jesus was quite clear.

Luke 17:22-24 The Coming of the Kingdom of God
20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”[a]
22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. 23 People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. 24 For the Son of Man in his day[b] will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.

Just a little history. One of the most celebrated reports from antiquity of bizarre goings on in the sky appears in Josephus, History of the Wars relating to c. 65 AD.

Besides these, a few days after that feast [of the unleavened bread], on the twenty first day of the month of Artemisius, a certain prodigious and incredible phenomenon appeared: I suppose the account of it would seem to be a fable, were it not related by those that saw it, and were not the events that followed it [the destruction of the temple in 70] of so considerable a nature as to deserve such signals; for, before sun-setting, chariots and troops of soldiers in their armour were seen running about among the clouds, and surrounding the cities (6,5,3).

I find this fascinating and I hope you don’t mind that I shared it.

I believe this has run it’s course. No ill feelings
