How do they count the days?

That’s it’s partially Slavonic - is it Eastern Orthodox (this year a week later than Western)?

Ash Wednesday 1, Thursday 2. Even if it’s Western, it would seem we’d be up to W-R-F-S-(skip Sunday) - M - T - W - R. that’s 8.

Maybe Eastern Orthodox started Lent on Monday?

We don’t do Ash Wednesday. Lent for us begins on Clean Monday. Yes, our Fast is longer. We base the Fast on the date for Easter which we calculate using the formula adopted by the First Holy and Ecumenical Council of Nicea (AD 325). Also we start abstaining from meat a full weak before Lent begins during what we call Cheesefare Week. Lent began for us on Monday.
