In this parable, God is the merchant man, you are the pearl of great price. God valued you so highly He paid with His only son for you.

“Jesus said people would sell all to buy that treasure or pearl, meaning they’d give up everything else for the Kingdom of Heaven.”

John Piper spoke on this at the Sing! Conference on September 11, 2018, but it was just published yesterday on YouTube:

Highly recommended.

This is similar to:

Matthew 10:37
He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

Christ also taught that it is not possible to be His disciple without forsaking all that we have.

In this passage He describes trading all that we have for the most valuable treasure of all—Him. Those who do so, do so with JOY, as this passage says.

Why? Because we have the most valuable treasure of all.
