Bishops Should Take Church of England Summit to Court Over Same-Sex Partner Ban, Says MP

An MP has hit out at the Church of England after bishops were told they could not bring same-sex partners to the Lambeth Conference.

In an interview with The Telegraph to mark LGBT history month, Nigel Evans said that allowing bishops in heterosexual relationships to bring their spouses to the international summit, but banning same sex partners, could be classed as workplace discrimination.

He said: "I'm wondering whether that's discrimination. It could be tested in the courts. If it wasn't for the gays in the Church, the Church would crumble!

"If it is tested in the courts, we would be doing the Archbishop of Canterbury a favour."

Employment lawyer Danielle Parsons from Slater and Gordon agreed. She said: "That would be my understanding as well, I mean discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation is clearly unlawful under the equality act of 2010.

"I am surprised to hear the Church of England is acting in this way.

"This seems like there's no problem with heterosexual partners bringing their partners, what seems to be the case here is that homosexual clergy are being singled out and treated differently.

"I can't see any reasonable basis for this.

"You'd have to look at the circumstances surrounding this but I think it's very hard to understand why this is happening and certainly in my view if any other workplace had this sort of rule it would be a discrimination issue."

If it wasn't for the gays in the Church, the Church would crumble!

Then there are people who believe that the church would attract more families if the church consistently, properly, and lovingly counseled those who act as predators on the importance of following God's word.

Scripture is not a cafeteria menu where you can pick which verses you were going to follow anyways and ignore the rest. Rather, the Bible contains God's infallible wisdom and its guidance is infinitely better than mindlessly following whatever animal urges we are susceptible to.

If the only things holding up the Church of England, are gays, it NEEDS to crumble.

This is what passes for “Conservatism” in England.
