In chapter 12 of the Gospel of John, Mary of Bethany pours a bottle of nard, an expensive perfume imported from India, over the head and feet of Jesus. Judas Iscariot reacts by saying, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages."

So Judas was the first socialist.

So Judas was the first socialist.

Which gets to the heart of socialism: Envy disguised as altruism. Judas was not concerned about the poor, he wanted money.

John 12:5-6 (NASB)

5 "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor [people?]" 6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it.
