Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
(New Testament)
Philippians
No Confidence in the Flesh
3 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.
7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christthe righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christyes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
(End of Scripture Passage)
If anybody was "qualified" to teach about spiritual matters, it was Paul. Yet he looks upon all his training and study as "rubbish" in comparison to his relationship with Christ.

And it is You Who Create new Life in the Secret Place of a Mother's Womb.

And Mere Words Don't even Tell The Story of Your Awesome Splendor!
We Pray For The Leaders of Our Nation,
May They Be Inspired and Led By You,
And Please Guide Them in All Things.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
My beloved Mom loved TV, and one of her favorite programs was the Bob Newhart Show. Newhart played a Psychologist with a group of quirky patients, and was very funny. To narrow things down a bit, her favorite EPISODE of the series was in Season 4, Number 8. (I looked it up using key words) It was titled "What's It All About, Albert?" and was aired on 11/1/1975.
In this episode, Bob questions the efficacy of his profession, and struggles with depression as he examines his life. Has he really helped anyone as a Psychologist? Has he really made a difference in ANYBODY'S life at all? Bob decides that he is going to seek out his mentor, Albert (played by Keenan Wynn) who has been his inspiration since College. Hilarity ensues as Bob pursues his quest, and in the last scene he finally meets up with his old idol.
Laconically, Albert muses on Psychology, all the great names like Freud, Jung, Pavlov, etc, and the therapies; Psychoanalysis, Behaviorism, Aversion therapy, etc all the while, Bob eagerly taking it in. Then, Albert looks bob in the eye and says:
"Do you know what I've concluded?"
"What?" Bob eagerly asks, expecting a giant pearl of wisdom.
Albert pauses, looks Bob straight on and says:
"IT' ALL A CROCK!"
I remember sitting next to Mom on the couch back in 1975 bursting out into hysterical laughter, and that line becoming part of our vocabulary from that day forth. It just so happened that my husband was going through the same struggle as Bob, working in a State Mental Hospital as an "Mental Health Assistant" which required a degree in Psychology. Then the feckless governor of our state closed all the hospitals, put the mental patients out on the street, and Hubby decided to study Computer Science. He said that Computers made more sense than people!
Now, you may wonder why I am sharing this. If you read the Passage from Philippians again, you will see that Paul counts all his former learning, experience, and prestige prior to his conversion as "Garbage". This is a nicer word than The KJV uses which is closer to the meaning of the term used by Albert. Paul is not so much insulting his past achievements as he is rejoicing in his current state, brought about by God's Amazing Grace.
Interesting that Today's Passage brought me memories of Mom, my Husband, Bob Newheart, Keenan Wynn, and (ugh) Dukakis. LOL.
