The Supreme Court has balanced the free speech rights of students against the legitimate need of school officials to maintain a safe, functional, and productive educational environment. After all, a school is not a public square where people come and go at will and are allowed, in general, to speak freely. A school has a particular mission—to educate students—and the First Amendment allows schools to institute policies and rules that promote that mission, even at the cost of a reasonable limitation on student expression.

Under the Supreme Court’s decisions, a school may not interfere with a student’s right of free expression unless that speech:

This is not necessarily a list of the only limitations a school may constitutionally impose on student expression. First Amendment law is a dynamic area of law and we can expect future decisions by courts on student free speech parameters.

I’ll bet the educrats would not have the slightest objection to “Bring Your Koran to School” leafleteers.

They’d be denounced as Islamophobes if they did.

It is impossible for any school to be religiously, politically, or culturally neutral. Such a state of neutrality is impossible in the mind of any sentient human.

NO government school in this nation is religiously neutral. All of them violate the First Amendment human rights of the students forced to attend and the citizens forced to pay for them.

Good!

Islam is being promoted in schools.

If they’re going to allow that, then they need to allow other religions.

If Christianity is banned, so must islam be.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Betcha dollars to doughnuts if a Muzzie group handed out fliers for “Bring Your Koran To School Day” during lunch and recess, nothing would be said or done by the school.
