Around 8:30 this morning, December 27th, Bre's friend went into her room and found her unresponsive and barely breathing. She immediately called 911 and Bre was taken to the hospital where she was admitted to the ICU, sedated & intubated, and doctors began working up a diagnosis. After a CT scan and hours of testing, they have determined she has the H1N1 flu and possibly meningitis. The doctors are concerned that her neurological signs are not great at this point and have informed us the next 24-48 hours are going to be critical for her.
George is in the hospital with her in San Diego and at this time we're just asking that you lift Bre up in prayer and ask for a healing miracle and a full recovery.
Everyone in the family is overwhelmed at this turn of events and is focusing all their attention on blanketing Bre in prayer and love. The outpouring of support the entire Payton family has received since Bre's hospitalization has been amazing and this site will be updated as often as possible so they can continue to focus their attention and love on Bre's recovery while still having a place to see all the well wishes and prayers from everyone. We cannot wait for Bre to be able to see how much love and support she had during this fight when she's out of the hospital and on the road to recovery!

WOW, thank you for posting this, how does one end up with this type of hybrid flu as apposed to just a regular flu what makes ones immune system turn against them???
I too have had my share of crushing sadness
and I am sure for all of us there will be more to come
my parents handed me a gift that at the time,
I thought little of
but
through the years I have come to see how precious and indispensable
that faith has been.
I shudder to think of those that face life's inevitable hardships without it.
and I long to share what has been generously passed on to me
so they too can endure to see the joy that awaits them
as their trials pass.
Thank you Jane
God Bless

These hybrid flus start where people and pigs or birds live in close proximity. China is such a place.
What happens is that early in the flu season a normal human flu starts going around. And while this is happening a swine flu spreads among pigs, or an avian flu spreads among poultry.
Flu has the ability to easily mutate. The human flu and one of these animal flus come into contact and swap some genetic material, producing a human-animal hybrid flu.
This hybrid flu then starts infecting people. Its alien, hybrid nature makes the human immune system go berserk and overreact. The stronger your immune system, the greater the overreaction. So the young and strong with great immune systems get hit the hardest, and their own immune system can kill them.
The fact that Bre had this H1N1 strain of flu and was very recently on an air plane flying home are others she came in contact with in danger???
If she was coughing or sneezing, sure. Or if they shook hands with her. Flu spreads easily. You can be contagious before symptoms begin and for about a week after.
Think they better contact people seated next to her on that flight, this hybrid stuff is scary and I thank you for your explanation of this I had NO IDEA of the danger of these influenzas, 26 year old to die of this is pretty damn scary!!! I had the Hong Kong flu in my early 20s I have NEVER been so sick in my life, I honestly thought I was going to die, lasted 2 weeks before I halfway felt human again I will never forget that as long as I live!!!
Very sad. RIP. Prayers and condolences to her family and friends.
Prayers for her family.
Absent thorough cleaning of airplane from any country of suspicion which most likely does not happen this will happen again and again.
Death is nothing at all
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well.

Moved on to another project I suppose...
I remember those threads. Got seriously sick from the flu in 2009, and I know how serious it can be.
Oh, I’m so sorry. Prayers for all.

Lord Jesus Christ, rest the soul of Thy servant Bre with the saints and the angels.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.
