Editors note: Some readers may find the details in this news story disturbing.
The Rev. W. Thomas Faucher, a longtime priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise who pleaded guilty to five felony crimes, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole and will be required to register as a sex offender.
Faucher, 73, was accused of amassing thousands of child porn images and videos on his home computer and pleaded guilty in September to sharing some of those images online. He apologized in the courtroom ahead of his sentencing at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise on Thursday.
This is the crime that has the potential for both immediate and long-lasting consequences, 4th District Court Judge Jason Scott said. ... I think there is a legitimate risk to the community.
I am deeply sorry that I was and have been connected to that in any way, Faucher told the judge in a statement that lasted about 17 minutes. Faucher said he was deeply struck by the victim impact statements and that he knows child pornography is not a victimless crime.
I was one really sick puppy. I screwed up big time ... I feel so much remorse and anger, Faucher said at his sentencing.
There are many people who will benefit if I am no longer in jail, Faucher said, explaining that hed like to help others. There are no people who will benefit if I am in jail or in prison.
A thinner and more frail-looking Faucher was wheeled into the courtroom in his Ada County jail uniform just before 9:30 a.m. At least 30 people, including some members of the Diocese of Boise, plus local media were packed into the windowless fifth-floor courtroom some watching cried while others left the room as......

To know him is to loathe him.
The entire story is awful. I wish I had stopped reading it sooner. I kept on reading, because I expected there to be some moment of contrition or even redemption that this priest had arrived to. That doesn’t happen with him.
He continued until he was stopped by circumstance, not by feelings of guilt.
Now all he'll get is a deal from DC comics for a new character they can portray as an oppressed minority.
he ‘was’ ? arrogant little p... er, loser. He may think he’s a changed person but The Man Upstairs isn’t as forgiving.
I think people are incapable of knowing how forgiving God is.
Well, his sins are indeed forgiven. But he still gets to face the temporal consequences.
Pray for Pope Benedict XVI. He is a real prophet, such a great gift for such a short time. Replaced by a man who needs prayers (and should leave his post).
I think it’s spelled out pretty clearly. Suffer the children to Jesus. Corrupting the soul of an innocent child is right up there with thou shalt not kill. Maybe even higher. Because that child victim carries that corruption, that internalized pain, that silent shame and confusion, which affects their lives on every level, every day of the rest of their lives. Our God is a forgiving God, but HE most certainly remains a vengeful God. To add, there are only a few things that really tick Jesus off and He told us what they were - robbing children of innocence, stealing the wonders and joys of life from them, is one of them. This dude wasn’t a one-of, he is a soul eater and has about as much a chance of Divine forgiveness as Satan and his minions on Judgement Day.
;)
When one considers what “the Lord” said and the horrible things done to children sexually its hard to disagree with what you have posted.
Good thing his Bishop kept firm control of him

Read Matt. 18:6 and Luke 17:2 to see what He what He says will happen to those who do this to kids, if they do not repent.
(Hint: the judgment they will face will be an exceptionally severe one, if they do not repent.)
Faucher, 73,...
His chances of walking out of prison and needing to register are between super slim and none.
