There's an enormous irony here which I've yet to see remarked upon. Francis' blanket condemnation of the death penalty is so.....er....."rigid".....to use his favorite word! There are no exceptions, there's no room for debate, no room for evaluating the "concrete situations" (another favorite Bergoglian term) of murderers. In fact, it leaves absolutely no room for "discernment" (another absolutely favorite Bergoglian term) whatsoever. The death penalty is always wrong!

I'm surprised to hear such rigid teaching from a man who rages against "rigidity" almost daily. Could it be, perhaps, that there are in fact some situations where rigidity is desirable? Or is this man just a hypocrite who makes stuff up to suit himelf?

This pope is so arrogant and vain that I truly wonder whether at some point he will either be kidnapped by some ‘state actor’, or assassinated. Seriously, he is currently planning to travel to Abu Dhabi for 2-3 days in February.

Were some large terrorist organization to kill or capture him, then announce that he had converted to Islam, it would be as big a coup to Muslims as was the capture of Constantinople.
