I’ve never figured this out. The Catholic Church, an organization where its leaders cannot marry? Gee, what could go wrong?

When growing up in a small town we had a Catholic church and the priest was a very likeable and respectable person. My dad, who was raised a Catholic, when seeing this priest, often said they have their own harem.

With the nuns also having to practice celibacy, again, what could go wrong when you have a nun or two and a priest sleeping under the same roof? This priest of my childhood was also a very happy person, and I believed my dad to be correct.

If the church would get rid of this stupid rule the homosexuals would have one less place to hide and the church could regain some respect.

(1) Priests and nuns don't sleep under the same roof.

(2) Married clergy doesn't stop clergy sex abuse (cf. Anglican/Episcopalians.)

(3) Historically, and for very sound reasons, esteem for marriage and for celibacy advance each other. When they rise, they rise in tandem; when they fall, they fall in tandem. When people respect and honor vows made in the sight of God and all, they live honorably as holy married people or as holy consecrated virgins. If they come to reject vows and reject God Himself, the can't live honorably, period. No honor at all.
