Washington D.C., Oct 18, 2018 / 05:00 pm (CNA).- New data shows that an increasing number of babies worldwide are born to unmarried parents.
The data was released in an annual report published by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA.)
About 40 percent of U.S. children born in 2016 had unmarried parents, the report shows. This is more than double the percent of U.S. children born with unmarried parents in 1980, and 10 percentage points higher than in 1990.
In the rest of the world, even more children are born to unmarried parents. In 2016, 60 percent of French babies were born with unmarried parents.
The UN data showed that across the areas studied--the United States, France, Spain, Sweden, the EU, Japan, and Russia, the unwed pregnancy rate has increased or remained relatively stable in recent years. France has had the highest percent of babies born to unmarried parents since 2010, eclipsing Sweden, the previous leader.
n 2017, the organization Save the Children rated Sweden as the fifth-best country for mothers, behind Norway, and Finland, and Iceland. Sweden is noted for its expansive social benefits made available to mothers and children.
One exception to the trend is Russia, which has seen the percent of children born to an unwed mother drop from a high of 30 percent in 2004 to 22 percent in 2016. Russias abortion rate has also fallen during this time period.

That’s how you destroy a civilization.
NOW’s stated goal
“Progress.”
Why would anyone believe anything from the Nazi UN who rapes and murders children...
I know a Christian pre-marriage counselor.
Half the couples (supposedly Christian) that he counsels are living together before marriage. So the statistic doesn’t surprise me.
Post-modern millennials just don’t see the problem.
That means their fathers don’t bother to legally claim them.
That’s just sad.
The stigma of out of wedlock birth is all but gone these days. While it’s better than aborting, I’m not sure that having all of these kids being raised by single parents is good either. If anything being a single mom is celebrated.
That is a high percentage to be sure, but I wonder how many couples get married after the baby is born and the child is raised in a two parent (biological) family
Roughly 75-80% of the men in prison were born to single moms.
And right now, Jorge Bergoglio is hosting one of his Sin-Nods that seeks to acknowledge, accept, and bless “irregular families”.
Being born into a single parent household, usually a female led household,is a recipe for failure for that child.
Humanity is going to pay a dreadful price for the Bastard Boom.
“Half the couples (supposedly Christian) that he counsels are living together before marriage.”
Only half?
I can’t think of any wedding I have been to in the last 20 years where the couple was not living together prior to the actual wedding.
“Bastard Boom”
Perfect.
Japan ???? Last I read it was just 2% !
I have a question about your definition of a single parent family with a woman as head of household. Do you include a woman whose husband died and she did not remarry? Do you include a woman whose husband abandoned the family or is your designation for a single parent someone who bore a child out of wedlock but continued to raise the child on her own?
Just make sure paternity is established at birth. The births would go down if abortion was illegal. They’d be a whole lot less out of wedlock sex.
As for abandonment...yes,that happens. And my hunch is that such an event usually speaks poorly about the man.IOW,there are times when the man is largely,if not entirely, responsible for such a bad situation.
To speak bluntly...there are far too many women in this country today who are willing to "give it up" with the expectation of getting that golden welfare check every month. And there are also far too many men who are willing to deceive a woman who wants a normal life but find out,too late, that they've been conned. And there are women whose husbands die young,as you mentioned.
In NYC, about 75% of black children are born out of wedlock. I’m thinking that raises this average of 40% given for general stats.
