Based on a wholly false narrative. Shepard was killed by a partner in the amphetamine trade running between Denver and Wyoming, and a sometime sexual partner. The hate crime story is total fabrication. Shepard and his killer were collaborators and Russell his killer was coming off a speed trip at the time and irrational.
