If anyone else was saying what he said, I’d wager it would be considered a threat of some sort. Imagine the Catholic Church threatening their people...talk about sexual abuse done by us and we just may start talking about what is said in the Confessional.... it doesn’t have to be anything illegal to be said out of the Confessional to destroy anyone...just something immoral being confessed. Most Catholics don’t recall that confessions were originally done out in public within the congregation and then the royalty, landed gentry and so forth decided they didn’t want their sins aired in public and hence the private Confessions were done for them and ultimately the Confessional booths were introduced. I was raised Catholic and know of some of the less known history.
Thanks for the history. A local Catholic church does do the "open confession" in the church nave.
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God
