But the Catholic Church has weathered through worse.
The situation makes the truly faithful in it shine that much brighter.
Much worse?! How much worse can it get than this?! Predatory priests raping the most innocent. I can't believe any sane person would want to remain in a church that has become so perverted. What are catholics going to do when Frankie declares homosexuality to be God's will? It's coming. Look at the Episcopalians. They're already there. There is no future in the catholic church for normal people who don't want their children raped by their local priest. The catholic church is to religion what the Democratic Party is to politics. The sane people are leaving.
But I think a lot of people missed some salient points in the Shapiro report. One is that of all 300 priests named (not tried or convicted, mind you, but named --- the accusations go back to the 1940's and half of them are dead) how many were implicated in the past 10 years?
Two.
That's right, two.
And those two had already been turned over to the police by their dioceses.
Now, I don't know what the charges on those two were, but if it was the worst of the worst --- if they sodomized minors--- I think they should be shot.
That's what a just sentence would be.
But do you know what the record was over the past two years? I'll tell you. Over the past two years, .005 percent of the Catholic clergy have had a credible accusation made against them.
So people who say stuff like this ("There is no future in the catholic church for normal people who don't want their children raped by their local priest") --- ought to sit down and actually look at the numbers.
That is not too much to ask.
And let justice be done.
