Actually Paul teaches that we are the judges of behavior based on the Truth of the Word as “scripture is of no private interpretation”... in his case, that someone was committing incest in Corinth. Paul had to hammer home what the Word meant in its proper interpretation, in Truth for its proper application in Corinth.
MacArthur has been a divisive figure since he first started preaching that the Gifts ceased at some mystical point during the first century.
That takes a LOT of tricky mishandling of the Word, as Pastor Jack Hayford would be happy to tell you.
MacAtthur’s mishandling of the Mark of the Beast follows precisely.
He is a false teacher, and from my experience, a clanging cymbal without love and without the mitigating presence or understanding of the Holy Spirit.
To teach that one can be redeemed after taking the Mark of the Beast is outrageous and no amount of discussion by you can make it go away.
Again, this thread is about the video which shows he is completely out of his mind with this teaching.
The Lord warns against false teachers of this sort.
But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, arguments, and quarrels about the Law, because these things are pointless and worthless. Reject a divisive man after a first and second admonition, knowing that such a man is corrupt and sinful; he is self-condemned.…
Do you know Roman Catholicism uses that rationalization for the assertion "they" are the official interpreters of Scripture by misquoting II Peter 1:19-21? That passage is clearly talking about actual revelation from God and how we know Sacred Scripture comes from the Holy Spirit and not what the prophets thought up in their own minds and why we can trust what it says:
God gifts teachers/pastors to His assembly/church/body to teach the truths that have been revealed in Scripture. The Holy Spirit is who leads us into all truth. There are also "disputable matters" and we are told to NOT argue minor things and be divided over them. There are major tenets of the Christ faith that have been taught, believed and preserved from the start. These are what we are called to hold fast to and pass on.
You can certainly have your own opinion about Dr. MacArthur, but so can others and just because you disagree with him about a minor point you ought not condemn him and everyone else who disagrees with you.
I suspect that this is probably the actual reason for being so vehemently opposed to John MacArthur. I happen to agree with him that the sign gifts - not all gifts of the Spirit - have ceased. I guess I'll get lumped into the HERETIC, false teacher, a clanging cymbal without love and without the mitigating presence or understanding of the Holy Spirit and completely out of my mind group, too?
