Billboards promoting a celebration of faith and freedom at the First Baptist Church in Dallas were removed after complaints from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas Morning News.
The patriotic billboard campaign included the title of the sermon Dr. Robert Jeffress planned to deliver on June 24 America is a Christian Nation.
We were told by the billboard company that the message was divisive, Jeffress told the Todd Starnes Radio Show.
The sermon title was inspired by a comments made by Supreme Court Justices John Jay and David Josiah Brewer both of whom described America as a Christian nation.
The message will present the historical evidence for the bedrock of faith upon which America was founded, said Jeffress.
However, the Dallas Morning News and Mayor Rawlings blasted the pastors sermon title suggesting it was hateful and divisive.
That is not the Christ I follow, the mayor told the newspaper. Its not the Dallas I want to be to say things that do not unite us but divide us. I never heard those words that voice come out of Christ. Just the opposite. I was brought up to believe: Be proud of yours, but do not diminish mine.

Saddened to see Pastor Jeffres back down/give in, on this.
This is pushing the envelope....now there is precedence.
Terrible.
Dallas Mayor Rawlings is a steaming pile of dog crap, so is the Dallas Morning Snooze.
If this can happen in Dallas, Texas, the first amendment is clearly dead. Want government to censor speech? Just call it divisive or hateful. Romans chapter 1 is upon us.
It’s already a fact in Austin. San Antonio, DFW & Houston are in as well.
Sad.
If a majority of the population identifies as Christian, then it is perfectly accurate to say we are a Christian nation.
We need to start fighting back! Our money still says “In God We Trust” so how is this not a Christian nation. The U. S. Constitution only guarantees a freedom from a national government sponsored religion. That is not a proscription against religious faith or the projection of faith.
But Jeffress is one of Trump’s Whitehouse pastors. That makes it all okay.
We need to challenge all Muslims and Atheists to burn their money in protest against the declaration “In God We Trust” that is printed on it. Spending our money is a tacit acknowledgement of the sovereign authority of our God.
What a golden opportunity. They should create a fundraising drive to buy their own billboards and put them on private property all over the place. Get them heathens raging.
Really?
I guess he’s got full blown vaginitis south parkis.
So...First Baptist Church surrendered.
Sad.
The mayor heard Christ say its ok to be something else and not to worry about all the things he has said? Interesting.
Even signed contracts cant survive political correctness now. Sue them for all you can get.
I saw him on Fox last night and he said something liket, “yeah, we took it down, but we bought 18 more”. We shall see what’s to come.
Yes, the problem was that the owner of those 2 billboards decided to cave to the mayor.
Another billboard company didn’t care and put up 18 more. (or 20?)
BTW ... I was referring to Rawlings. I hope that was clear.
Imagine, being so scared of the PC crowd that you appease them before they’ve made a fuss?
That motto is effectively an obsolete artifact of a bygone era. A Christian nation does not murder its unborn to the tune of 60 million since 1973. I would say the US used to have Christian leanings. Today, not so much.
In my opinion.
Actually, Jeffress didnt back down - the owner of the billboards (a company based out New York) is who caved: They informed Jeffress that theyre canceling their contract with him and removing his content from their two billboards. However, theres good news at the end of the article: Another company offered to put Pastor Jeffress content on 20 billboards in Dallas rather than just two.
aww yes, I see - makes sense
