This kind of story (your link) makes no sense to me at all. When I was growing up, in a solidly Catholic environment, there was nothing we thought more horrifying than the idea of sexually abusing a child. It seemed to us unspeakably horrible, on a par with devil-worship or murder. In fact we still see it that way: your mind and and soul and every cell recoils from the evil.

How this guy (in your USA TODAY link) could have said he "didn't know" it would be harmful to the child or to the Church, is bizarre.

All I can think is that sin of this sort makes people so deluded that they just can't think anymore.

It seems he is in denial - maybe to not face the evil he committed.

He should be in jail.
