The pope gave the impression that even though the father was an atheist, because he did a nice thing, he would go to heaven. That is a complete contradiction to Scripture. It’s hard to justify in any context.
The whole Roman Catholic religion is contradictory to God’s word. I wouldn’t worry about what someone says or doesn’t say.
