There is a theory among some that John the Baptist is Elijah reincarnated. But a more informed view is that John the Baptist was given the spirit of Elijah, much like Elijah granted the same spirit to Elisha. But it's not his soul. Besides, Elijah didn't die. He went to heaven while alive, according to the Bible.

"Black ball with liquid and messages that would float to the window." A magic 8-ball? We used to play with those as kids. A silly gimmick that you can still buy today. "Reply hazy, try again later". I don't think anyone took them seriously. But then again, I suppose it's like a gateway thing possibly leading to tarot cards and the like. Next thing you know, witchcraft. The occult is not something to play with.

“Elijah granted the same spirit to Elisha. But it’s not his soul.”

Just curious, What is the difference between a person’s spirit and their soul?

I agree. It is a slippery slope with satan. I’ve helped quite a few people over the years that got in trouble with ouija boards and various spells. They brought in spirits that stayed and caused trouble for them.

Thank you for the nice response. I drifted waaaaay off the main theme of the thread.

I don't know what exactly the significance of Jesus' discourse with the crowd about John the Baptist . . .some say and so on (writing from bad memory). Sometimes I wonder if he played people along because they probably wouldn't accept the truth anyway.

I know Elijah went to heaven in a flaming chariot. Elias didn't die either. It is some mystery to me. Moses did die, and he and Elijah appeared to Jesus in the cloud on the mount at the transfiguration.

Yes the black ball and other things, you got the keyword being gateway (to the dark side or occult). Essentially I was only seeking for myself to find if God really existed, peace and desperate for healing and found none of those until I turned away and back to God. I don't know why I never found peace, but I do think I arrived at a saving knowledge of Christ and understanding that not all conditions are healed in this life. Some may be because we don't understand how to ask properly or other causes. We all have to eventually face death anyway. Except those at the very end who are alive at Christ's return.
