Paul told you to hold fast to the faith which delivered you, but you want to earn something for your striving, just as Catholics are also taught that they must earn by faithfully following the sacraments established by that religion, catholiciism. Again, you do not discern the spiritual truths Paul has given to us from The Most High God.
In an active voice, Paul wrote it is by faith that we ARE saved, not of works. And in 1thess1:10 he tells them that it is Jesus Who HAS delivered them/us from the wrath to come.
