His idea of conscience is misleading at the very least.
The constant teachings of the Church properly inform the conscience. It’s not an exercise in autonomous individualism. The notion that conscience is “the most secret core and sanctuary of a man...(where) he is alone with God, Whose voice echoes in his depths” is Kasper-speak for “do what you will if you decide that God is okay with it.” I mean, that seems to be the thrust of certain paragraphs of Amoris Laetitia. On the contrary, the voice of Jesus Christ echoes first and foremost in the Church and the authentic Magisterium. “He who hears you, hears Me.”
I must say that the comment I mistakenly attributed to Cd. Kasper above is actually from Vatican II.
But it can obviously be used to twist the meaning of authentic, informed conscience, so my point is still apt.
