That conveys to me at least, what must be the terror of being in danger of losing your life, especially in something as seemingly random as an artillery barrage.
A terror so encompassing where you probably begin to think that every shell is seeking you out, and the one that is going to kill you has already left the barrel and is coming directly to you...a terror so profound you would have no shame, being a committed atheist and wishing for God, the one you not only ignored, but openly and unabashedly denied the existence of, to save you from death.
I am certain there have been shelling barrages that have changed the lives of the survivors.
Then there’s also the fun fact that when you think you should run, you realize you can just as easily run to where the incoming shell might hit.
