At least three Collects are said, the first two being at the option of the priest. If Mass is said for the Holy Souls in general, the first Collect is for the deceased bishops and priests, the second for the deceased brethren, relations and benefactors. The last Collect is always as follows:

Litigabant ergo Judaei ad invicem, dicentes : Quomodo potest hic nobis carnem suam dare ad manducandum? Dixit ergo eis Jesus : Amen, amen dico vobis : nisi manducaveritis carnem Filii hominis, et biberitis ejus sanguinem, non habebitis vitam in vobis. At that time: Jesus said to the multitude of the Jews: I am the living bread which came down from heaven. O Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory, deliver the souls of all the faithful departed from the pains of hell and from the deep pit: deliver them from the lion’s mouth, that hell may not swallow them up, and may they not fall into darkness; may Thy holy standard-bearer Michael lead them into the holy light; * which Thou didst promise to Abraham and to his seed. ℣. We offer to Thee, O Lord, sacrifices and prayers; do Thou receive them in behalf of those souls whom we commemorate this day. Grant them, O Lord, to pass from death unto life; * which Thou didst promise to Abraham and to his seed. |
