There is now an Iranian base very near Damascus, and a Russian-made drone has been intercepted by Israel.
Also, there have been attempts to blame Israel for much of what is happening in the last few days, so that Israel's enemies can go forward knowing that Israel must be extra cautious in order not to get blamed in world opinion.

Globalists is always a good answer, but also Russia wants the oil and gas that were recently discovered, even if just to disallow a competing market for Russian oil and gas in Europe.
First time Israel would be up against a big power. Not that it matters but it must a trifle intimidating to many.
