Never bothered to verify it, but I've been told that here in Massachusetts the law is still on the books obligating men to bear arms to church...Ironic.

The American Bishop's conference supports every kind of restriction on the RTKABA that the left can dream up. My very own Cardinal O'Malley has literally preached gun control from the pulpit. If you're Catholic remember, many (all?) diocese are organized as a corporation with the bishop at the top as the de facto CEO. As such, no matter how much you trust your pastor, it's probably best not to burden him with an explanation and putting him at direct odds with his CEO. Map out the plan with like-minded folks in your parish who aren't obligated to kiss the bishop's ass ring.

And for legal reasons I should also add, in addition to this not being legal advice, "it's probably best not to burden him with an explanation" as long as it's legal to do so. For example here in MA I've been told that you have to "get permission" before carrying in church. This is at odds with both the above-mentioned old law and the current law that you may carry anywhere normally legal (ie not government buildings, schools, etc) unless specifically told not to. For example, they can't just put up a sign that says "no guns," they have to specifically order you to leave the church, at which you're trespassing.

Either way, the law's an ass so follow it close.

Look for pressure to mount for ALL the churches to increase security measures, including CCW in states that have it. Look for even the Catholic Church in USA to cave.
