WASHINGTON The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal of a ruling out of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals that declared a New Mexico Ten Commandments monument unconstitutional. Two Wiccan women who took offense at the display had filed suit against the Decalogue placement in 2012, stating that it made them feel alienated.
The nations highest court gave no reason on Monday for its decision to not to take the case.
This is a victory for the religious liberty of people everywhere, Peter Simonson, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, remarked in a press release. The Supreme Courts decision to let the rulings against the monument stand sends a strong message that the government should not be in the business of picking and choosing which sets of religious beliefs enjoy special favor in the community.
The ACLU had represented Wiccans Jane Felix and Buford Coone of the Order of the Cauldron of the Sage in its legal challenge against the monument, which has been on display at Bloomfield City Hall since 2011. A former city council member had proposed the monument four years prior, which was then approved by city council but paid for with private money.

One of these days they are going to have to take a jack-hammer to the Supreme Court building because of its frieze if they allow this type of thing to stand.
Flip ‘em the finger and ignore it. The USSC building has a 10 commandments right over the front door. They said its ok in a historical context, which is exactly how the New Mexico display had it.
These rulings need to start being ignored, and any federal moves should meet the Bundy response. They count on fear based obedience.
The Ten Commandments are on the wall of their chamber.
A local government should announce that the ruling is moot, and will be ignored as long as the Supreme Court has them on display. This is a time in America to call the tyrants out on their BS.
Use the term you rule their ruling moot. It’ll drive them batty. Maybe one of the old ones will pop a critical vessel.
It was the govt who ruled it should be removed. So the govt had everything to do with removing religious liberty.
You need four justices to grant writ. My guess is Gorsuch, Alito and Thomas want to wait for another Constitutionalist.
Christianity is our History. If they do this they must unearth every Indian effigy on public land in this Country. They must get rid of every totem pole. They must also get rid of every Pagoda shape or representation thereof in every public park. They also must get rid of anything of religious significance in all museums. They must rid of everything that might suggest it has a religious significance in any public area in the whole country, no matter how ancient or historical it might be.
Your guess is correct, those are the only Constitutionalists on the bench.
Roberts and Kennedy are not.
Yes, but that’s not going to happen.
And it shouldn’t. But it needs to be pushed for in courts by Christian organizations and people to make the point, to show it’s absurdity. Make them take it to courts. Show them their ridiculous hypocrisy. Expose them as the unreasonable Christian haters they are. Make them set legal precedence.
I can’t understand why people don’t do that with the nativity set too. If you live close to a government building, put one on your lawn. If more people would do this, not having one at a court house would never matter. I can’t understand people at all.
The only thing I could see is that they have a full docket for 2017-2018. There are a ton of big time suits that need to be studied and ruled on. Perhaps they just thought they had too many lawsuits to look at.
[[There is no constitutional right to not feel alienated.]]
Exactly- the constitution was NOT created to protect people’s subjective delicate feelings- it was created to protect people’s RIGHTS- Wiccans do not have a ‘right’ to demand that society not offend them no more than Christians have a ‘right’ to demand that all forms of filth and sin be banned-
sorry that second part should have read
“it was created to protect peoples —OBJECTIVE— RIGHTS”
“Congress Shall Make No Law...”
Where exactly does that phrase include a”State”??
(1) The mayor and city council refuse to take it down, and ignores all subsequent court rulings, judgments and/or fines
(2) Gov. Susana Martinez orders the State Marshalls office to refuse to execute any court orders with regard to the monument, citing the 1st and 10th Amendments deny jurisdiction to Federal courts on matters of religion in the states.
God will,.
Some day.
And any other islamic memorial.
It is a pretty important case don’t ya think?
Price of individual rights, corrupt judges, and immoral citizens.
