The Messiah in Yom Kippur

Believers in Messiah know that Yeshua (Jesus) has provided our atonement: “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 3:23-24). God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. Yeshua's (Jesus') death surpasses and replaces the atonement ritual of the Jewish Temple. The book of Hebrews explains the ceremonies of the Day of Atonement as a pattern of the atoning work of Messiah. Yeshua (Jesus) is our high priest, and His blood shed on Calvary is seen as symbolized in the blood of bulls and goats. As the high priest of the Old Testament entered the Holy of Holies with the blood of his sacrificial victim, so Jesus entered heaven itself to appear before the Father on behalf of His people (Heb. 9:11-12) (Killian n.d.).

The Old Testament tabernacle was designed, in part, to teach Israel that sin hindered access to the presence of God. Only the high priest, and he only once a year, could enter the Holy of Holies, and then not without taking blood offered to atone for sins (Heb. 9:7). Hebrews notes that the levitical offerings could effect only the purification of the flesh. They ceremonially cleansed the sinner, but they could not bring about inward cleansing, the prerequisite for fellowship with God. Just as the high priest had to be sinless to enter the Holy of Holies and live, so Yeshua had to be sinless to live after He entered the grave.

But Messiah being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

What Jesus did has nothing to do with Torah Law.

My friend, with just the Torah you have death and no completion of redemption. You sin is covered but no removed. RIGHTEOUSNESS ONLY COMES FROM Almighty God (Isa. 53).I challenge you to look up the verses I gave you, not one was from the new testament. The following of the Messiah started with the Jew 2000 years ago and it will end with tbe Jew as God establishes His Kingdom throught Messiah (Zech. 12:10-14.

You understand why Torah Law means more to me than your subjective opinion. You can quote any verses you wish. The Oral Torah is the true explanation of the Written Torah.

I think if I am not mistaken, it was the early Christians who were driven out during the time of the apostles from the Jewish synagogues, not the other way around.

Yes it does. Read it without someone telling you what to think and what it says.

The new testament is clearly new compared to the Torah. That is why it is called “new”. The new testament book of Galatians has no theological importance in Torah Law. It is the same as the koran. The Oral Torah explains that G-d does not have a human form. Again, please do not flood me with sources.

Nobody said the New Testament was NOT new compared to the Torah, don't know why you would have had to say that. The theological importance, however, is that the first followers of Jesus Christ WERE Torah observant Jews. Their writings are as far from the Koran as possibly can be! Just as the Torah had prophets of God to speak as the Holy Spirit led them, so to did they. Quite a bit of what they wrote in these books was their personal experiences with Jesus, his teachings, their absolute conviction that he was who he said he was - THE Messiah, that they personally saw with their own eyes that he arose from the dead after the crucifixion and the continued revelations from God that were taught to the followers and those of us to this day who believe in him.

We also know that Almighty God is a spirit and those who worship must worship him in spirit and truth. Your prophet Isaiah said that the Lord himself would give us a sign, a virgin would conceive and bear a son who would be GOD WITH US. Isaiah also revealed, For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isa. 9:6). That's what Christian believe. Jesus, the Son of God, IS Almighty God who took on human flesh to dwell among us so that he would be our kinsman redeemer. We know that there is only ONE true God, but he has revealed to us that he is Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three, yet ONE.

I can't help but wonder why you joined the discussion on this thread if you didn't want to be "flooded with sources"? I hope your questions have been answered and I pray your heart would be opened to believe that Jesus IS your Redeemer, as well.

He fulfilled the Torah. He is the sacrifice that all of the sacrifices of the Torah pointed to. Those sacrifices could only cover sin temporarily. The High Priest needed blood shed to cover his sins. Jesus is the Lamb of God. When Isaac was offered by Abraham (his only son) God provided a sacrifice that took his place. That sacrifice was a picture of Christ. He is the sacrificial lamb that took our place, and was sacrificed for our sins.

A brass serpent which was lifted up was looked up at and the people lived. Jesus was lifted up and died for our sins. He became sin for us, as the brass serpent represents sin. By looking to Him we live with our sins forgiven. He became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God. He bore our sins away and replaced them with His righteousness. He is that ultimate sacrifice written about also in the Prophets and in The Writings. He is found throughout your ancient Jewish writings, if you are willing to read them truthfully.

1) The Five Books of Moses contain all of the Divine precepts. But their practical applications are neither defined nor explained in the text.

2) The Hebrew text consists of consonants only. There are no written vowels. Words without vowels are clearly ambiguous. They could be read in many different ways with altogether differing meanings.

3) It is clear that the Jewish people must have been informed from the outset as to how to read the Torah, the meanings of its statements, and the definitions of its precepts by an oral tradition.

4) The Oral Torah shows that Christianity is definitely forbidden. It violates the Torah Law prohibition of creating a new religion. It violates the prohibition of idolatry by worshiping a man of flesh and blood. It violates the positive commandment to know that G-d is one and that He does not have a body or any form.

Nothing you say can change these facts.

When you use the word "Torah", do you mean only the Pentateuch (the written five books of Moses), the written Pentateuch and the oral tradition (Mishnah, Talmud and Midrash) or do you mean the entire Tanakh (the Pentateuch, the Prophets and the Psalms)?

You say "nothing" can be said to change the facts you state, but have you considered that Christianity is based upon the Jewish faith, that the early followers of Jesus were ALL Jewish and knew their Scriptures backwards and forwards? The Apostle Paul was a Pharisee and studied under Gamaliel. He persecuted the early Christians for the same reasons you are claiming today, but something happened to him and he became one of the most fervent and faithful witness of Jesus as Messiah even dying as a martyr because of it. Paul knew what the Torah said and he was quite familiar with the prophecies concerning the coming Messiah. You seem to be ignoring what these many prophecies foretell. Do you believe God has given you signs that will confirm the true Messiah has come?

Jesus was also a knowledgeable Jewish man. One day he was in his hometown synagogue and was given the scroll of Isaiah the prophet to read.:

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. (Luke 4:16-22)

Christianity is not a "new" religion. Christianity does not teach that we worship a mere man of flesh and blood. Christianity does not teach there are three Gods. You can continue to denigrate my faith if you want but you do so out of ignorance and nothing you can say will change these facts. Shalom.

I see that rational arguments mean little to you. I will give an emotional argument. You need to fear the G-d of Israel. He is not the god of love. If you anger Him, you will feel His wrath. He will end you. And nobody will save you. You little understand what you are playing with.

This is my last post on this subject.

Seeing it's your "last post on this subject", permit me to voice my own feelings WRT your false accusations about my faith.

Rational arguments mean quite a bit to me. It is because of the rational and logical study of the person of Jesus Christ and His undeniable resurrection that I came to believe in Him. So far, you have offered nothing but irrational, emotional ones based on your own prejudices against Christianity. For example, I fear and reverence the LORD God of Israel He is MY God, as well. He is the ONLY, true God, creator of all. He IS the God of Love. Like King David, I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. (Psalm 52:8). Like Jeremiah, the Prophet, I believe:

"Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:23,24)

I love God and, because of the Holy Spirit, I strive to live a holy life that brings Him glory. I'm not playing, I know what I believe and why I believe it. I think it is yourself who lacks understanding and will miss out on the salvation the God of Israel has provided to you through the Messiah, Jesus. Please don't reject Him. I'll be praying for you.

The Oral Torah explains that any new religion which came after Sinai violates the Torah Law prohibition of creating a new religion. The new testament is clearly new compared to the Torah. You know that. Violating Torah Law does not fulfill it.

Jeremiah, the anointed prophet of The LORD said, speaking for The LORD:  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 30:30-33
