There seems to be a Fake News epidemic in traditional Catholic websites -- the latest of which are repeated reports of "rumors" (there are true and untrue rumors...) according to which Pope Francis wants to "abolish" the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum.
The rumors recur periodically, with variations. Most often, it is said that Francis will do so as soon as there is a "deal" with the Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX) for the establishment of a worldwide Personal Prelature.
These rumors are not true.
Even the “rumor” version has Francis requiring concessions from SSPX (sign off on Vatican II and say nice things about the new Mass) that neither Fellay nor the rest will do.
What would happen to FSSP/ICKSP? Forced integration into SSPX? That’s a non-starter. Forced integration into N.O.? Not happening.
Francis doesn’t abolish stuff. He re-interprets.
Good point. Maybe the OP is a matter if semantics.
And, if one believes Francis is a legitimate, true pope, then he has every right to "abolish" or change Benedict's SP.
However, it should be stated that the marginalizing or "ghettoizing" (as Skojec calls it) of the Traditional Rite is clearly the end to which Francis is working. That is not "fake news". The abolition of SP is not the only means to this end. Just as Familiaris consortio and Veritatis splendor have not been repudiated, yet we currently have a situation where Communion is being given to those living in adulterous relationships. There's more than one way of skinning a cat.
The FSSP was commissioned by St John Paul II and they say the TLM FSSP.org
Now they do. I think that he may be thinking of limiting it to only the SSPX; thereby severely limiting opportunities for Catholics to go to it.
The FSSP will be in a box, to vow alignment with the Seat of Peter, but then to decline his serpentine offer to implode, or else to be forced into SSPX. When that statement comes.
Bergoglio does not fear schism, but welcomes it. He has as much as said that he may be the cause of schism. Pompous pride to say such a thing. Because he is housed in Rome and in the Vatican Halls as pontiff does not make us the schismatics.
The Cardinals are asleep while Christ Jesus suffers in the Mass.
no, the FSSP is worldwide and many Cathedrals have Latin masses also check out FSSP.org they have their own parishes and those attending are not old and nastalgic, but rather young and married with children
I don’t think you’re understanding my point. I am saying that I believe that at some point the FSSP (and all other indults like ICKSP, etc) will be no longer.
If/When the SSPX joins the Vatican, Francis will make the SSPX the only way for Catholics to attend the TLM thereby severely restricting access to it ...throughout the world (not just the US).
So essentially, Francis will not “abolish” SP, but he will make the TLM so limited that it will feel as if he did.
And on what do you base this opinion?
Paying attention to the signs of the times.
Since my last post I’ve been thinking and praying about what the real problem is these days. We Catholics are supposed to be sent out into the world to combat the evil in the world. So when after Vatican II the focus of the mass was changed into a dialog between the priest and the congregation we lost our refuge from the pressures of the world and perhaps some of the humility that the Traditional mass encouraged us to cultivate. And along with that switch we lost the training and power of our faith. Just a short perusal of the 62 missle and the myriad of prayers and instruction it contains convinced me that we had all we needed in that missle to be well chaticized. Instead of christian soldiers the church has been sending out christian relativists
