Church leaders asked to ensure the 'Sinicisation of religion'
The Chinese Communist Partys top leader in charge of religion has made it clear that Beijing intends to retain a tight grip on the Catholic Church.
Yu Zhengsheng, a member of the elite seven-man Politburo Standing Committee and chair of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference, told members of the open church community to ensure that the leadership of the Chinese Catholic Church is held firmly in the hands of those who love the nation and the religion, reported ucanews.com.
Yu spoke to about 100 bishops, priests, nuns and lay leaders at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on July 19 at an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the state-controlled Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association. He made his comments amid continuing talks between Beijing and the Holy See about the normalisation of the appointment of bishops, the first step in a path that could lead to the establishment of diplomatic relations.
But negotiations appear to have slowed in recent months due to an impasse over the fate of a handful of Beijing-appointed bishops.
During his speech, Yu also encouraged Church leaders to implement with self-awareness the basic direction of religious works and always to insist on the direction of Sinicisation of religion.

Which seems to be what Francis wants.
Well at least the Chinese are less Communist than Frankie.
I seem to recall that ancient Rome tried to do the same thing. That policy was not successful.
Psalms chapter 2 tell us what to expect from a living God. All men would be wise to take heed.
"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Christ, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Ain’t dat the trooff.
The ImPopester is a fellow traveler so it’s not really a problem.
Except for Catholics...........
And then this morning, my favorite Sunday Sermon from Charles Stanley was on 1 Samuel 17 (David and Goliath).
God ain't always so mysterious...but as usual, He got my attention.
Don’t know what you intended but the Catholics in my family really dislike Pope Frankie, the Commie.
The fake Pope is making life very difficult for all Catholics, not just the Chinese Catholics.
He’s trying to replace Catholic teaching with Marxist mumbo-jumbo and attempting to make Catholics accept it.
“The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”
Like the church of Jesus Christ is subject to the control of communism leaders.
I hear that!
