There was a mighty king who led his people to victory over all their enemies, bringing peace and prosperity to their fair land. Yet, the king desired something more – a beautiful woman he saw bathing from his palace roof. He asked around about the woman. He learned that she was the wife of one of his loyal soldiers.

Yet, the king was determined to have her. So while the woman’s soldier-husband was away protecting the kingdom’s borders, the king himself was sleeping with the soldier’s wife.

The adultery resulted in a pregnancy. And to cover up the scandal, the king had the woman’s husband assigned to a dangerous mission where he was killed in action.

That tawdry story was made into a 1951 movie starring Gregory Peck as the king and Susan Hayward as the adulterous wife.

Who would argue that Christ followers should avoid the tawdry tale of David and Bathsheeba, with its sex and violence?

Game of Thrones contains graphic depictions of nudity and sex -- full-on, extended shots of vaginas and swingin' d!cks abound, as well as sex scenes that I don't know how could be faked. The violence is another aspect -- not just violence, but graphic dismemberment, mutilation, torture and sadism. Just as often as not, the nudity and gore is the end unto itself -- how shocking a scene the writers and special effects people can put together becomes the whole point of the show.

Unlike the Bible, there is no moral of the story, no redeeming hope. The worst thing about the show is that the overall theme of GoT is utter and complete nihilism.

I watched a few episodes from various seasons on the recommendation of friends. All the vulgar content aside, I found the story boring and predicable, although YMMV on that. I'm no shrinking violet, but I think you have to tread far into the realm of moral relativism to justify watching GoT without at least fast-forwarding multiple scenes per episode.

In my day it was Harry Potter.

In any event, 98% of what’s on TV is unhealthy garbage, so why single out GOT? No, it’s not a sin to watch it, but it’s not good for you either - sort of like eating a bunch of fried Twinkies.

You aren’t watching David and Bathsheba have sex. You aren’t reliving it for your own sick pleasure.

I have a hard time appreciating the “Christianity” of someone who doesn’t know the difference. I would say you have a better grasp on sophistry than Christianity.

I feel so ashamed. One of the best shows in TV history.

The strongest part of GoT was the early seasons which was pretty much a rip off the English war of the Roses which made it pretty compelling and realistic. Once they got past that material it’s just been one long snooze-fest of feminist propaganda, feminist porn (rape and torture porn is the #1 form of porn consumed by feminists), and feminist revenge porn winding up with all the kingdoms ruled by women with nothing but weak men running around serving them. Oh and the primary enemies is a bunch of Zombies that no one actually cares about.

Who would argue that Christ followers should avoid the tawdry tale of David and Bathsheba [sic], with its sex and violence?

These examples are in scripture so that we AVOID acting in this poor behavior and suffering the consequences that David and Bathsheba received from God. They are given for our edification-not so that we can relive them over and over.

That being said, there is something to be said about knowing what is being peddled these days. The question really is whether you would invite Christ to sit and watch the show with you? Christ wasn't a snob. He ate with sinners. But he didn't frequent those places.
