ALL of the old covenant must die that the new covenant may live! For 40 years the two covenants existed side by side, but in the end the old had to pass away for the new. That is why the Temple was destroyed - and why it can never be built again.
“Therefore, the law is indeed holy, and the commandment holy and righteous and good . . . For I delight in the law of God” (Romans 7:12, 22)
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill . . . until the heaven and the earth shall pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the Law . . . (Matthew 5)
of course the Temple will be built again. One, the temple the antichrist moves into and announces himself god, and after it is destroyed, a permanent Temple
