Oh, really? The Church regarded Science as the means by which God’s secrets were uncovered. So they were pretty much down with whatever science uncovered.
There is nothing in Christian dogma that needs to be “adjusted” in response to science. Unless one holds the unscientific dogma that “science” proves that a man cannot rise from the dead.
