No. Because in Germany people in general are simply not interested in any kind of religion anymore.
This is wrong. The real Germans dismiss religion completely since a few years. It does not matter if we speak about christianity or the muslim religion. Nobody is interested in Islam either. Obviously nobody seem to need the idea of a God anymore.
BTW - nobody hates Pope Benedict. He is simply irrelevant to most Germans.
This ain’t nessecarily so. Germany does better than ever. Highly educated people, the most successfull economy over the past few years in the west and a quite stable and save situation within the country. We earn good money. Much of the islamophobia here in the US is for us Europeans only dumb propaganda since usually we have no direkt problems with immigrants. The new years eve in Colonge lead to many political changes and most Germans are content with it. This is the reason why they will elect Merkel in a few weeks again.
The real difference between the US and countries like Germany, UK, Czech Republic, Holland or France is the denial of religion in general espechially among young people. Islam is not adopted in relevant numbers.
Why don’t you change your screen name to “German Guest”?
If you want to be a booster for all things German then fine, that’s being a patriot.
But don’t deny the obvious, Germany is now overrun with violent hostile nonassimilating Muslims.
So then, what do you think of countries like Hungary and Poland who are sealing their borders against Muslim invasion?
FWIW, I go to youtube often for vids under “Bayerischer Zithermusik”. Love that music. Don’t see any Muslims amidst the dirndls and lederhosen.
I do not change my screen name into “German Guest” since I truely feel being “European”. I have close family in France, Germany, Switzerland, UK, Italy, Hungary, Sweden and the Netherlands. Nationalities do not play a big role amongst us anymore. Further I had the privilege to know Pierre Pflimlin who had some impact on me when I was younger.

Therefore as a polite but honest guest I do not feel pledged to adopt a American idea of nationalism that most of us overcame a long time ago. Europe changed and Europeans changed. The EU is definitly much more then just a free market.
BTW - Have you ever heared the zither-music of the “third man”, a film playing in Vienna of 1949?
I loved zither music ever since hearing Anton Karas’ “Third Man Theme”. The delicate strains of the zither introduced me to a musical side of Germany that was not all bombast and Wagner.
You might as well embrace your multicultural identity since there isn’t much of a Germany left to cling to, just a first among equals in EU. Europeans nowadays paint their faces on festive occasions; for Germans it’s black, red, & gold and for others it’s whatever you please. Who cares, anymore?
