The Church of England will be asked to denounce gay conversion, consider special services for transgender people and re-examine its teaching on marriage as between one man and one women in a raft of measures to be debated at its forthcoming General Synod meeting in July.
In its first meeting since the surprise rejection of a bishops report recommending keeping the status quo on marriage, the CofEs parliament will debate whether to join medical experts and condemn so-called gay cures as unethical, harmful and having no place in the modern world.
Tabled by senior synod member Jayne Ozanne, the private members motion has received strong support from synod members. But it is likely to be fiercely opposed by a small segment of hardline conservatives.
Ozanne, a gay rights activist on synod, told Christian Today: It is incredibly important that religious organisations follow the clear lead set by the health care professions in standing against this highly damaging and unethical practice, which reinforces stigma and prejudice against the LGBTI community.
The Bible teaches that we are each fearfully and wonderfully made, and we should therefore look to celebrate Gods gift of diversity in creation not treat those of us who are non-heterosexual as having mental disorders that need to be cured.

So where does the “modern world” get off telling faith in Christ what it ought to be?
The Lord will not be mocked.
The “Christian West” is now a missionary field.
If the secular world wants to run off and do all kinds of ungodly things, we shouldn’t be surprised, but also we shouldn’t go copying it.
If the secular world wants to run off and do all kinds of ungodly things, we shouldn’t be surprised, but also we shouldn’t go copying it.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 applies.
Well really it is, which means it can’t be crowing about how “Christian” it is and that Christians can’t be crowing about how “Christian” it is.
For what it’s worth, God may find it easier to lift up sinners who are honest about sinning than Christians who are happy with a veneer of the faith. No view of Jesus short of absolutely wonderful Savior will do... He is not a mere arbitrator of “decent secular society.”
Bingo. Romans 1:18-32. Christ’s purpose was to reconcile man to God, not God to man. Everything is upside down, and society will pay a price for it.
But most of all, John 3:16.
People who criticize faith in Christ could stand to try it first. Christ will forgive any number of sins, but will excuse none.
Let a secular society head on a one way trip into the pits if it wishes. That shouldn’t be the itinerary of what we are calling a church.
Ezekiel 10:18.
Nothing like that old time Capitulating Religion.
“LGBTI” - that’s a new one. What the heck does the “I” stand for? All I can think of is Idiots.
How about exploring whether or not the “modern world” has any place in the real world?
Those operating in the temporal, state-establishing, spirit of anti-Christ have always coveted the true body and bride of Christ, which is His church.
His body and church -- WE the priesthood of all believers who have an Individual relationship with our creator beyond their temporal purview.
The fact that these issues are being “debated” at all doesn’t bode well for the truth.
And 2 Timothy 3:1-5 as well.
