Where Children Are Raised With The Rule Of Law

Its Value And Merit

And If That Doesn't Work There's Always The Belt.

TOPICS: General Discusssion; Moral Issues
KEYWORDS: kjb; preservedword
No one can partake of God's divine nature by participating in a water baptism, joining a church, taking communion, tithing or any other activity they engage in. If your doctrine teaches that you must perform some ritual in order to obtain the great and precious promises of God, you're standing in spiritual quicksand. Believing in God's Word and the power of His Holy Ghost is what enables believers to escape the lust of this world and overcome the sinful desires which everyone possesses.

Ecclesiastes 7:20
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

Psalms 58:3
The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

After receiving salvation through Jesus Christ, God shares His divine nature with us and that's when our old desires become repulsive and reprehensible. We don't want to do the sinful things we did, we don't want to watch the sinful things we watched, and we don't want to think the sinful thoughts we thought. We realize now that those things are evil and we must stay away from them. God shares His divine nature with Bible believing Christians and because of that, we now know who God truly is and how He expects us to behave.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Ezekiel 11:19
And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

Being allowed to partake of God's divine nature is a wonderful gift, other gifts He gives along with it are faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity. You will never be able to manufacture God's divine nature in your life, nothing you do can produce it and you can only partake of it after adoption into His family through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 1:5
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Galatians 4:5
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Yeah, I thought a self contradictory account. All this lip service to Christ, practice quite opposite.

The best way to teach with a belt is to show the child how to wear it... I.e. the belt of truth, supporting the law not of “rules taught by men” but the Spirit’s, of love.

The Holy Bible is too big, intimidating, and hard to digest for today’s fast-pased lifestyle. They need an abridged version that cuts to the chase.

Thanks for your opinion, but I'll stick with the word of God if that's ok with you.

Proverbs 23:13=14
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

The Word speaks for itself:
Matthew 4:4 But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for doctrine, for teproof, for instruction in righteousness, that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ... 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Revelation 22:19King James Version (KJV)

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Probably the best abridged “Bible” out there is the NIV, they removed 64,000 words. No meat on the bones, but you can use the bones to tickle the ears.

John 6:37  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
John 6:44-45   No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.  It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
Joh 6:65  And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Any particular reason you posted these verses or did you just pick something randomly out of the Bible and decide to throw it out there?

I learned a lot of Scripture from the original NIV years ago. God used that foundation despite the NIV’s perceived deficiencies. People complain about every version, it seems. I listen to ESV audio Bible because I like the reader’s voice (and can immerse myself in God’s Word while I work or ride my bike).

Interestingly, several teaching sources I use teach out of the KJV and I am able to perfectly understand the references due to my intake. I’ve listened to Galatians at least twenty times, so the online KJV study I’m listening to while working is done from my ESV memory! I know the letter well enough that the good teaching is enhancing and opening up what God has taught me already. (Note: I do like how the KJV translates “the faith OF Jesus Christ” and all that implies).

I did find an audio reading of the KJV by the same man (David Cochran Heath) and I plan on exploring that version more, as well as my huge KJV Family Bible I found at Half Price Books...if I can find where I packed it before moving.

Thanks for your testimony and for your participation in the discussion. However, I disagree that the deficiencies of the NIV or any other modern version are merely perceived. Let me give you just one example.

Is Jesus Christ the Son of God or is He a son of the gods?

KJB
Daniel 3:25
He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

NIV
Daniel 3:25
He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

ESV
Daniel 3:25
He answered and said, “But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”

They can't all be right, and if a Bible contradicts who God says He is, then that Bible will begin to sow seeds of doubt in people's minds that the devil can then come along and use to shipwreck someone's faith. Which has happened all too often in this country.

No discourse on the matter of “rods” is complete without recourse to Psalm 23. I hope that is okay with YOU. To let scripture interpret scripture.

We see quite a different picture here. We see the gentle shepherd. The wolf and other menaces, not the sheep, is being beaten away (that is why the rod comforts, not discomforts, the psalmist). We also see limitations being placed upon such activity by Paul, who says not to cause the child to lose heart. The Old Testament knew nothing of Christ except as a far-off future hope. Of course such a milieu is going to be rougher. But if you want to bring up a Christian, you will look to New Testament instructions.

Most people who make much of their being beaten when young turn out at best to be shallowly religious people, easily offended. The wrong thing is being brought to the foreground. Proverbs are things to be used properly; a proverb in the mouth of a fool is, well, useless (read the exact verbiage for yourself).

Again, I hope such observations are okay with YOU. To give you a fuller perspective.

This is an example of honesty in rendering. The statement is being made from the mouth of a pagan. The pagan is going to see it from a pagan point of view. He never expected a Christian “Son of God.”

Scriptural dishonesty is scriptural dishonesty.

We should take advantage of all perspectives we can validly get. To know that the passage is believed by theologians to have described a scene in which a preincarnate Christ appeared, may be useful. To stick those words right in the mouth of the pagan, is to stretch things.

One thing I have noticed about ardent KJV-onlyist defenders is that they will make much of the illustrious group of men who translated it. At once this puts up a red flag for me. God tends, by scripture’s own testimony, to work His best through modest, even unassuming means. Moses wasn’t a PhD of a human theological school; a burning bush taught him a lot. The KJV is a marvelous work of MEN. Whether it is the best that God can give us, is another question altogether.

We have to put the emphasis on the right things in the right way, or we become rigid fools, not yielded vessels to God’s unfathomable wisdom.

And if your faith was that shallow, maybe it was good that it be shipwrecked. Get off that rickety rowboat and get on the battleship.

And I learned about that personally soon after accepting Christ who appeared to me.

In fact I was “beaten” — but interestingly enough it wasn’t God who was beating me. God was letting the devil beat me, emboldened by my sin which was great. Because He had many lessons for me to learn about gathering courage from Him and beating the devil, which has to be done His way — not my way or any other man’s way. And I can’t start doing it His way till I stop doing it mine. And that means I will learn to cast away even the “hand” and “eye” which are “causing me to sin.”

I couldn’t even theologize my way out of the simplest conundrum on my own. Oh, I had somehow blasphemed the Holy Spirit and my brief Christian life was doomed! I finally, reluctantly (laughing at the arrogance and weakness of my old self, now) allowed myself to hypothesize that God had made a way that I had not thought of. Well what started as a hypothesis soon grew into a manifestation of reality as God kept on witnessing, and witnessing, and witnessing, without stopping.

Brother (I assume you are a brother) if something as little as a variety of translators’ takes on the holy bible will shipwreck your faith, then it wasn’t any kind of “faith” worth keeping and God needed to lead you to something better. Understanding the situation, you can look beyond what you have in your hand to something of the heart of the God who inspired it all.

Bible snobbery will always come back to bite your faith. It always will.

Uncannily like in the situation of Joseph Smith (who founded the Mormon church) the wrong question is being asked. Joseph Smith asked what was the right church, and finding no church to be perfect on earth, he thought ah! he will now found the right church. He was missing the fact that the church was already real and found distributed among the membership of many denominations. His ignorance was played upon by demons who constructed a heretical denomination through him.

We’re now asking what is the right bible. To a deeply studying pastor (such as the one at the Southern Baptist church where I am now worshiping) who is moved by the heart of God, this is found to be an elusive question for good reason. Sometimes the NIV knocks it out of the park. Sometimes the KJV does. Sometimes Holman does. Sometimes they all have problems. Digging back to the Greek and Hebrew and understanding the Lord’s overall intent gets us the best picture overall. And we may have to suggest that whatever English version we are using would better be phrased in some different manner, backed up by the original Hebrew and Greek texts.

The bible as we have it has much redundancy, so some unclearness in certain passages is at least partly remedied through other clearer passages. In the end, our salvation will be consummated directly by the Lord, and whatever errors we still embraced will be set right for anyone who has a willing soul. They don’t need the bible in heaven. God is transparently manifest to all. The bible is something we need on earth. The Lord sees to it that we have an adequate witness for His purposes. The Lord does not let us presume that we can formulate a perfect witness before we meet Him for that final journey to heaven.

At any rate, let us go back to the gifts. Those are well emphasized. Let’s attribute them to the activity of the Lord, not to the activity of men.

Well, if I read “son of the gods” I would think of “I said, ‘You are gods, you are all sons of the Most High...” Most commentators consider the “gods” to be magistrates or the judges “to whom the word of God came” (per Jesus). They were given great authority as God’s representatives to the people . Yet God explained they would all die and fall “like any prince”. They were mere men, subject to corruption by sin.

I’m a saved believer and know that Jesus Christ is God, so it is impossible for me to consider Jesus as “a son of the gods”. The Spirit within us says “No!” Which was my point about God using the original (not new) NIV. His Spirit helps us!

Consider this, an example of NT revelation concerning an OT event 1 Cor. 10:4):

KJV
“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

ESV
“and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.”

NIV (new one, getting these from Biblehub)
“and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.”

They all faithfully convey the revelation “the Rock was Christ”, which was not revealed in the OT text. There’s no agenda to deny His deity there! How else could he be that Rock?

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”—Romans 8:26

He helps us understand what God MEANS, in spite of word issues in translation (and the worst variances are found In the OT).

They were mere men, subject to corruption by sin.

And that is exactly what I mean by a seed of doubt being planted. You read that and you think of not the righteous, holy, perfect and only begotten Son of God, but of an earthly man.

Oh, I agree its very very subtle, and perhaps has not yet taken root in your life. But that seed is there and all it needs is some watering. It doesn't matter if there's alot of truth in the Bible you use, all it takes are little lies here and little lies there for the whole to be rotten.

Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

1 Corinthians 5:6
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
