Ahem! Jews appealed to Pilate to punish Jesus but it was the Romans that crucified Jesus; albeit Pilate argued for Jesus to be spared execution.

Pilate had the authority and power to exonerate and save Christ - but he did not. Rome (Gentiles) and Jewish Sanhedrin were complicit in bringing about Christ's Crucifixion. Sinful men (Jews and Gentiles) were complicit in bringing about Christ's Crucifixion.

Jesus speaking to Pilate in John 19:11 - "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."

Notice, Jesus does not exonerate Pilate or say Pilate is without sin. Jesus points out that the one who handed him over has the "greater" sin. Is Jesus speaking of Judas as "the one" or the Sanhedrin? I think both since Judas conspired with the Sanhedrin to betray Christ.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't the first time the Jews had been introduced to the Romans.

John 19
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

It was the Jews that demanded that Pilate crucify Jesus. Pilate tried to release Jesus, but the Jews demanded it because of the law.
