Welcome to the 1990’s.
I remember having a conversation with a Wiccan Sunday School student.
Her: “Wiccans don’t worship Satan”
Me: “Can they practice Wicca anyway they like?”
Her: Yes”
Me: “So they could worship Satan if they wanted”
Her: “No they couldn’t”
Me: “Do you even know what you believe?”
She also believed that witches can really do magic but the Salem Witch Trials were bogus because nothing bad could have happened. Which makes no sense.
A good way to make up for poor swimming skills I suppose.
It is a way for some people to feel empowered. Plus they get to wear their Halloween costumes all year. And be Really Scary.
It’s all America’s fault. How many impressionable children believed it when told, “You can do magic. You can have anything that you desire. Magic! And, you know, you’re the one who can put out the fire.”
I always bring up the fact that “precious liberal europe” burned witches by the literal thousands and less than a dozen were killed in the colonies...
It really pisses them off to debunk their whole “witch persecution complex narrative”
One told me that they do not worship Satan. Their deity is Diana the goddess of the hunt and her lover, the horned god. I tried to point out that the horned god is Satan, she wouldn’t believe it. Her coven met in a cemetery to dance naked and have sex. She was definitely deluded.
Wiccans believe that they are practicing White magic, which is good as opposed to Black magic which is evil.
