Sam is definitely my favorite character.

I don’t believe there are many real atheists in the world. I think a lot of people claiming to be are either mad at God because they couldn’t have something they asked for (like losing a loved one), or they want be the total ruler of their lives without having to adhere to standards or answer to anyone for their actions.

It’s impossible to be an atheist.

Anyone who says they are, is simply hiding the truth in the middle of their wrongness.

Good point. The atheists that I have known >hate< religion and specifically >hate< Christians. They are not agnostic at all.

Unfortunately many Christians have given them the justification for their hate (in their own minds of course). Some of the so called leadership in the churches and religious organizations have done more damage than they will ever know.

People never have a problem with God. They have a problem with their idea of God. Being able to see that distinction is the first step towards wisdom.

I don't find LoTR to be be particularly emblematic of Christianity or any specific religion. I can see how those who never considered the possibility of anything beyond "surface reality" would be tempted to reconsider that assumption after reading it, however. I suspect that's why so many converts to theism point to LoTR as a starting point in their journey.

Quote by Aldous Huxley
“Science does not have the right to give to me my reason for being. But I am going to take science’s view because I want this world not to have meaning. A meaningless world frees me to pursue my own erotic and political desires.”
