Well, speaking of work, sometimes this place tempts me to spend less time on it than I should. I love to chew the fat, dont get me wrong. But maybe I can dine on the whole pig, so to speak.
Maybe this is an odd place to mention it, but its possible that I may be the author of a theme song, from a Christian point of view, for Lets Make America Great Again. This was requested of my musical (and spiritual) collaborator by an ASCAP affiliated Christian music publisher. ASCAP seems to be more into that; BMI (which I signed up with some years ago) seems to be more into generic country music. Out of respect to my work partner, Im not going to put it up on FR yet. However Ive floated the idea of trying to get it dished out at, or very soon after, the Trump inauguration. Its definitely, very definitely, non-secular. In fact it has strong evangelistic overtones. However, I believe that is where the zeitgeist is headed. This hunch has been backed up by seeing the zeitgeist, turning more spiritual, back up some of my other lyrics, years after I penned them.
Anyhow, the key to this is the gift of Christ, which He gave at the cross. People always were offered the gift, but some took such an attitude that they would always refuse, and God full well knew this in orchestrating the drama that we call history.
So anyhow... Im hoping to get a call to Nashville, which is kind of the gospel and country music equivalent of what Hollywood is for movies. I could feed them scads of material. And I am pretty knowledgeable about modern politics, thanks to FR. If any of you folks are of a mind to pray for this and you would agree this would bring about a blessing to America (and to the world) please do so... I know this is not in the Religion forum, but I may repeat my request there, later.
Oh sorry my goof, it IS in the Religion forum now!
I had cut and pasted out of a posting into another group. Please forgive me the sloppy editing!
There’s a seamy side to Nashville too, guard yourself against disillusionment. The progressives have made major inroads.
Tell me about it... I was there before. A good Christian friend later told me that business was cut throat there. The conflict eventually sent me to Omaha, Nebraska. A lot of spiritual warfare going on. Even church preaching seemed to be obscured by human centeredness, as religiose as the place was. Omaha is quite fervently genuine, but they seem to have a problem letting the Lion of Judah out of their silly cage.
However, I also had some of my best spiritual experiences in Nashville, including where I wrote some of my prescient songs. The spiritual warfare isn’t in vain.
That sounds exciting! Good luck to you, and eat at Jack’s Bar-B-Que on Broadway, when you get there.
But anyhow as far as progressives are concerned... “to win the progressives I became like a progressive.”
To me, this is a challenge... not a nuisance.
It’s not a bad place overall, but it’s good that you’re not going in starry-eyed and have the blinders off.
Yeah... you need to come in ready to conquer.
God be with you, FRiend.
Thank you most sincerely. I am digging in for a battle royal with the devil. Not counting chickens before they are hatched, exactly, but this looks like the most pregnant possibility I’ve seen. If it does not miscarry, then my collaborator and I will both shortly be at a new level.
I’m trying to put stars in THEIR eyes, so to speak. Reversing the usual pattern of getting entranced by Nashville.
God bless you. If you need a back up singer that can’t carry a tune, I’m your man!
Just sing unto God to proclaim His victory. He doesn’t care what key you’re in.
When Mel Tillis (?) sang, his stutter disappeared, showing this old man that songs enter the soul in ways that talk and visual do not.
The door could be the size of a barn door, if we do it right.
And of course I would be back to FR asking things from time to time. Never forget your roots, is good advice. God doesn’t chop off the old roots, is what I have found; God cleanses them.
But it’s all going to ride on a mighty movement of the Spirit, which will bless us all. It ain’t about me. Life blew and battered me around pretty cruelly at times. If there was something wrong to do, I more likely than not did it. I had problems I could not fathom an answer to. I’m one of life’s lucky losers, so to speak. Because it wasn’t luck. It was the Hound of Heaven, telling this here sad sack to get up and start moving again.
A high school classmate of mine is pretty influential in Nashville songwriting circles. You’ll likely never have heard of him personally, but you’ve heard his work. Ronnie Bowman. He’s come a long way, grew up in a less than ideal circumstance. We’re proud of him.
That looks like it could be the pattern. “I must decrease, but He must increase.” I’ll be watching this and marveling while most folks will be like HTRN? who’s that? We got material that might give Charlie Daniels a neat, and very evangelistic sequel to his “Devil Came Down To Georgia.” But we wouldn’t be asking for the fame on earth. The fame we are aiming for is God’s in heaven.
But Nashville definitely has an infrastructure. The stars visible on the surface are just the surface.
And it’s the folks who have come from “down in the dirt” who really, truly appreciate what Christ can do. My past dirt might make a septic tank’s look good. If you’ve been looking good to the world and the world has been crowing about you, you might well miss His work.
A West Coast trucker new to Tennessee got on his CB radio and asked, “How do I get to Nashville?”
Fifty voices replied, “Practice!!”
(very, very old)
I hope the lyrics are more along the lines of “God help us and help this man,” rather than “God thank you for sending this man.” I know things look very promising, but I can’t help but be reminded of all the glories prematurely heaped upon Obama, who has turned out to be a colossal failure to EVERYONE, right and left, Christian and Muslim, the world over. I want to “trust (Trump), but verify.”
But I probably don’t have to tell YOU that! :)
