Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.(Psalm 2:10-12)
The Word of God to the Kings of the earth and the rulers, that is those who lead our civilisation, politically, culturally, academically, through media, entertainment, law, in short to all mover, shakers, and opinion molders, is simple and direct. Worship the LORD with fear, Rejoice with trembling.
Acknowledge that there is someone Higher than man, it is “He who sits in the heavens” , ruling Sovereignly over all, and against whom all men’s plans are futile ! Admit that you are but men, and unable to “Save the world”, or to set up a Utopia, and that in truth you too ,owe you next breath to God. Repent of your assault on God and his Christ, trying to strip away the last vestiges of Christian civilisation.
The Kings of the earth would need a revelation of who God truly is, in order to fulfill this command. The vision of God provokes that strange mixture of worshipful joy, with fear and trembling. Oh that the kings of the earth would truly be able to get a glimpse of the awful majesty, the beautiful holiness and of the glory of the power of the One who they have rebelled against!
Then they would worship, for they would acknowledge immediately, admitting that they are wrong, and unworthy,just as Isaiah did when He saw the glory of God.
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.(Isaiah 6)
The true Son of God, Jesus the Messiah, whom God the Father has signified by raising Him from the dead, sits at the Right hand of the throne of God, waiting to take the Kingdom and to rule in Righteousness at the appointed time.
“Be wise O Ye kings…”, look ahead and see what is sure to come and make the appropriate preparation. “Be instructed O Ye Kings of the earth…”, the problem with the kings of the earth is pride, they think they already know, they have a humanistic vision of a world order, they are the elite, the philosopher kings.
While there is yet time, “Kiss the Son”, do homage to the rightful King of the earth, King Messiah, Jesus the Lord. God has sworn that “Every knee would bow and every tongue confess” unto Him.
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.(Isaiah 45:22-23)
But Paul, by the Holy Spirit, interpreted Isaiah 45 this way,
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.(Philipians 2:10-11)
The warning to the Kings of the earth is one of wrath and everlasting judgment to those who refuse to do homage to the Son.”…Lest he be angry and you perish from the way…”. The wrath of the Son is the very wrath of the Holy God.
Will the warning to the Kings of the earth be heeded? For the most part no, they will go headlong on their way to Hell and damnation ,taking the world with them in their mad plight to unseat God and to rue over a humanistic,global,godless utopia. But God warns nonetheless, in mercy and love.
