Cardinal Raymond Burke will be in Croatia until Wednesday to present his book on the Eucharist, that has just appeared in Croatian.
Tomorrow evening he will give a keynote speech at the conference "Tradfest" in Zagreb. His topic is The Gospel of Life and a New Evangelization. "Tradfest" describes itself as an unapologetic festival of traditional and conservative ideas in contrast to so called progressive and militant secularist ideas and policies.
Tomorrow at 5 pm Cardinal Burke was supposed to celebrate the Old Latin Mass in the small church St. Martin near the Cathedral of Zagreb. The Low Mass has been cancelled or prohibited, as the Blog tomablizanac reports. Traditional Catholics in Croatia told Gloria.tv, that the Old Latin Mass was forbidden by the Archdiocese of Zagreb.
This is nuts. I’m pretty sure that under Canon Law a Cardinal has the right to say Mass wherever he desires, and under SP he can pick his rite. That said, I trust the Cardinal is wise enough to pick his battles.
I remember as a kid in Catholic Grade School being told the Latin Mass was that way so that no matter where you went in the world the Mass would be the same
Is there a sense that Cardinal Burke should be Pope?
How can a bishop do that under Summorum Pontificum?
He’s too nice.
We need someone with Burke’s brain, but a thug who will make heads roll. Cupich for streetsweeper. Dolan for bicycle messenger. Gomez for landscaper.
He can’t. Just as Paul VI knew he couldn’t abrogate the Old Mass—so he never dared to do it in black and white.
