Yet the main identity is underneath, really just hiding in plain sight: Yosef HaTzaddik.
After all, who holds that birthright? It went from Jacob to Joseph to Ephraim.
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer as they say. Of course Eisav is going to have a special interest in the birthright, and hanging about the one who holds it.
