I’ve had three bona fide miracles in my life, all involving prayer. I had not had one for a long time but the last one came about a month ago, or, should I say, transpired during the last month.
The catalyst: I was listening to the bible on my daily commute and noticed where it said God punishes those that are His to purify and bring closer to Him. Well, my life has been going GREAT for quite a while, which kinda disturbed me. So I prayed that he would further purify me (I was concerned that I had somehow “fallen from Grace” and wanted sort of proof that I was still His).
He obliged.
Within two weeks:
1. Got a big fat speeding ticket.
2. Found out there was a 5 figure lein on my house that I didn’t know about and, yes, I have to pay it. It was something that followed me all the way from our days in Seattle that we’d completely forgotten about. We also joked about these things coming in threes...
3. After contacting company for number 2, we got registered mail. We were excited because we knew it was their response to our lower offer. Nope. It was from the IRS. Seems they thought I owed an additional $6,000 in taxes from two years ago.
Technically, these are ALL my fault and, in fact, are further purifying us. I have an odd attitude about them. Since I see this life as a sort of “video game” compared to reality (eternity), I see this kind of stuff as the “interesting” stuff that happens that makes a video game fun in the first place.
And they really are purifying our lives. We are learning a lot as we resolve them, one by one.
But the moral of the story is, be careful for what you pray for...
Whoa. Never pray for humility. Man, will He answer that one fast!
